Crave is adapted from author Erwin Raphael McManus book Soul Cravings (Thomas Nelson, Pub.)

Author Erwin Raphael McManus is an artist and spiritual leader in the Los Angeles area.

The three videos in Crave total over 35 minutes. The three stories are vignettes in which someone has to make a life-bending decision. Production values are quite good and included in the jacket of each CD are sample discussion questions, such as “What is the most meaningful experience you have ever had and what made it meaningful?” Not only can you watch the CD’s yourself and figure out what you would do---and why---in each situation presented, but this is a wonderful enhancement for church and school groups. Using films to discussion a point is not new, but these films are short enough to keep a group’s attention and prompt discussions.

The stories include Pop Star concerning an arrogant, British rock star. His hair is slightly burned during a rehearsal and the guy is rushed to a hospital. He wants a private room, but has to share the ER with a small girl. Midnight Clear explores what happens when an escaped convict ends up at a certain house at meal time. Nameless Moment is set in college where one guy day dreams about a beautiful girl, only to actually meet her under unusual circumstances.

Music by Christopher Wong in Pop Star and Nameless Moment is especially good. Acting is fine and you will recognize Victoria Rowell (television’s “Diagnosis Murder”) or Guy Torrey. The scripts get to the point right away and you won’t see the end coming. There is always a twist. The stories are actually small parables of what people encounter in their lives, including accidents, confusion and hospitals. My favorite scenes are the rock star’s trip to the ER for singed hair and the day dreaming student who lets his mind wander during class time.
