Gideon the Tuba Warrior (DVD) Big Idea 44 minutes The story of Gideon in the Old Testament in a unique one: a man is allowed to test God in a physical way, in order to determine his proper course of action. Big Idea casts Larry the Cucumber as Gideon, the Tuba Warrior. His task? To knock down the walls of Jericho, which has an army of 30,000 hairy pickles waiting to destroy him. In a surprise, the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything have reformed, and decide they want to tell the story, usurping the customary duties of Bob the Tomato. Gideon and his mates are whittled down through several tests, and ends up with twelve warriors who are qualified to fight with him –“ six carrots and six peas. Are they successful? Will Gideon trust the message delivered to him from an angel (Pa Grape)? Let's just say the final outcome is faithful to the Scriptures. The usual Silly Song is included – this one includes the French Peas frrustrating Bob the Tomato in a Hawaiian song about turtles. Another short story opens the disc, a tale of George Mueller (Archibald Asparagus), who runs an orphanage and relies on God for everything. A cynical reporter, portrayed by Pa Grape, chronicles his tale, and ends up being affected by Mueller's unrelenting faith in God. This short is a departure for the Big Idea crowd, in that the story is told from a factual standpoint, without much comedy or embellishment. Gideon: the Tuba Warrior is just a touch below some of its predecessors, lacking as many humorous touches for adult watchers, but it will still resonate with elementary and preteen children. Brian A.
