Love and Radiation Artist: All Star United Label: 7 Spin Music/Providence/Sony Length: 11 Tracks/37.30 Minutes After a too-long absence All Star United returns with a rousing, eye-opening bit of adrenaline-laced fun with Love and Radiation. Ian Eskelin & company are in fine, bare-bones-and-catchy rock form in their fifth release. Love and Radiation showcases what ASU does best—string together a group of memorable rockers that point to the Savior while poking some fun at His creation in the process. Eskelin has been doing a lot of writing and producing lately, and his craft has been finely honed and is evident on this release. Standout cuts include the anthemic prayer of “Before You Break My Heart,” the pointed-in-the-direction of GMA/CCM/Dove Awards satire of “The Song of The Year,” and the rocking cry of “Like Hallelujah.” But the best was saved for last…the plaintive piano foundation of “Take Me Away” takes the listener to a place of stark reality: “I’ve had it all/it amounts to nothing/without you…” With hooks a plenty and solid lyrics, Love and Radiation is a solid 37 minute joyride waiting to take place in your music player.
