. . . via Chicago ...(All We Left Unsaid) (DVD) Artist: The Lost Dogs Label: Lo-Fidelity URL: http://www.lo-fidelity.com Length: 28 minutes In 2003, the Lost Dogs released
...via Chicago. This release is a follow-up to that show, with six
songs which for some reason were left off that DVD.
I was immediately a little disappointed to find there was only 28 minutes of video here. However, this disappointment disappeared when I popped in the disc. These aren't poor quality leftovers; they are as fine as the previous DVD. You get "Rebecca Go Home," a favorite of mine, "Dust on the Bible." "Three Legged-Dog," "Real Man Cry," "Be My Hiding Place," and "Golden Dreams." While I do recommend having both parts of the show, this part alone is still satisfying. As with the original DVD, all the shots are in focus and well-framed. The performance segments are presented in hard-edged, digital black and white with none of the softness or depth film emulsion film-provided classic recordings. Much like sitting under a bare light bulb for extended periods, the screen can be hard to watch. Inexplicably interspersed between the songs are artist monologues shot on the same stage in the same lighting conditions--in color. Fans of concert videos will find the breaks jarring but may be used to them now; however, these breaks usually discuss the next song. In other words, it follows the layout of the first disc. Despite these flaws, I loved the DVD. The sound is nicely produced, and a bonus music CD of the same part of the show is a nice addition. Again, thanks to Lo-Fidelity for bring us these wonderful DVDs. Shari Lloyd
