Fly
Artist: Matt McChlery
Label: Independent
Length: 11/46:53

Fly is a relaxed, dreamy, ethereal worship album that sometimes becomes overly repetitive.   Most of the songs here flow effortlessly into another, possibly a result of all of them having been done in the same key.  "Cling to You" has a 70's singer/songwriter touch to it.

The album parallels the Psalms in that it blends praise, lament, adoration, and an unwavering determination to rely on God.   "Lord Have Mercy" recalls Psalm 51 in its confession of sin, and a need to be forgiven.  "I Fall Down" is an expression of awe and wonder, and "You Are There" will resonate with those who are struggling for an answer:

Sometimes my prayers float in the air
Until they fall and shatter at my feet
I raise my hands up in despair
As the pain eats away my heart.
Thematically, this is a worthy addition for fans of modern worship.  Musically, I'd like to hear more variety, but that's matter of personal taste.
