Euphoria, are you for real?  You tore me up.  You tore into…  You let me down.
I can’t get out.
My fortune is over now when luck ran out.
Who?  Who are you?  You’re just an idea.
Your feet off the ground, trying somehow to be in the clouds.
Dying to be more than yourself it’s not right I know of that now.
I know that now…
Chest Rockwell vs. The World is a blast of fresh indie-rock wonderment full of interesting twists and turns.  Right from the lightning crash intro and smoldering acoustic build-up of “What Atrocities are These?” it is apparent the guys in Chest Rockwell intend to grab grey matter in your brain and not let go.

Chest Rockwell vs. The World features eight songs that meld seamlessly together and mash a remarkable array of musical styles into an engaging listen.   You’ll be treated to an indie-rock buffet of psychedelic, folk, metal(!), instrumental, and emotive sounds that veer from gentle introspection to flat out rocking (while remaining cohesive) on this CD.  The band throws in a tasty selection of vocal/instrumental styles and ear-catching chord changes that can be described as progressive; Chest Rockwell vs. The World features music that does not follow the typical three minute pop-rock song format that has (sadly) become the norm today.  Simply put, Chest Rockwell succeeds in creating something unique on Chest Rockwell vs. The World.

Lyrically, Chest Rockwell vs. The World touches on themes of relationships, yearning, lost love and introspection.  Track highlights include the lengthy and daring “"La Fin Absolue Du Monde," the two instrumentals “Warm Towels for E” (a soothing instrumental guitar oasis) and “Mayhems Leap of Faith,” and the adventurous tour-de-force “Multi-Pass” which ends the project nicely with a hard-rocking crescendo.  Instrumentally these guys are solid, and Josh Hine’s vocals ably cover a broad spectrum from tender to raging with an earnest, believable style.

In a world littered with sound-alike music lacking originality and depth, it is refreshing to discover a CD like Chest Rockwell vs. The World.  Oh, and the way-cool cover by artist Matt Simone wraps the project up in nice form!
