The Seventh Power
Artist: The Seventh Power
www.theseventhpower.com
Label: Retroactive Records
Time: 10 tracks/37:19 min

The Seventh Power has a Christian metal pedigree and a classic rock sound that will appeal to many fans of these styles of music.

The pedigree is supplied by Bill Menchen (Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards) and Robert Sweet (Drums).  Menchen is the leader of The Seventh Power.  Fans will recognize him as the guitarist for Titanic and Final Axe.  Sweet is the drummer for Stryper and many other projects.  The band is rounded out by the steady bass-work of Rod Reasner.

The classic rock sound is most reminiscent of Ozzy Osbourne’s work.  This is especially true because of the vocals of Menchen.  His voice is similar to Ozzy’s in range and style.  Additionally, his voice is run through some metallic effects & echo, similar to Ozzy’s on many occasions.  This leads to an ethereal, somewhat eerie sounding voice, which suits the crunchy music appropriately.  Sweet has said that this disc represents some of his most accomplished work, and I agree.  The drumming is appropriately heavy and crisp.

The recording is well mastered and sonically pleasing for metal fans.  The guitars alternately crunch and shred.  The bass & drums provide a steady, solid foundation.  The vocals are a bit processed (as mentioned above) but pleasing if you can adjust or like that sound.

The lyrics are straightforward in their Christian faith.  Lines such as
 Holy in His conception
 Righteous in His resurrection
To death He carried His cross
In death He takes us across
Christ Died, and now He has been raised
 He’s alive
and
You’re on a mission with sin in remission
So shout it out all over the place
The power of Christ compels you
leave little doubt about the reason for the songs on this disc.

The sound and unabashed Christian lyrics make this an easy recommendation for Christian metal fans everywhere.   If you still love classic metal with strong production values, this is for you.
