The
Crossing - January 2008
Tollbooth’s January Press
Release states: “Chris Barlow surveys ALL the upcoming releases in The
Crossing.”
That’s right. I leave no
Rock unturned. Unless, of course, there is something undesireable under
it.
Alright, I’ve checked, rechecked,
double checked and cross-checked, not to mention counter-examined this
month’s entry into The Crossing sweepstakes and with all the ducks in a
row, I can safely declare: we are off to a good start in 2008! Obviously
quite a few artists have been busy over the last six or so months to prepare
for their personal assaults on the new year. We wish them all luck! One
look through this list and you should be very excited with many of the
upcoming releases.
Also, as you’ll notice, there
is still a plethora of DVD releases coming out, while there are still many
good flicks in the theaters. The countdown to the
Academy Awards has started.
Who do you think gave the best performances and what are your favorite
films from the past year?
Although I made my best-of
lists last month, I’ll submit slightly expanded music and movie best-of
lists to the Tollbooth later this month, so check those out if you like.
And now with a whole new
year here, let’s start making a whole new list!

LYRICS of the MONTH:
I’m not sure exactly who
this song was directed to, but it just seemed to ring true in these often
dark days of Winter.
“If I go out in the morning
snow
In my pajamas and my winter
coat
And take from the house
our darker thoughts
And take away the memory
of loss
And if I drop them into
the snow
Will we never find them
anymore?
To see him, to see him happy
To see him, to see him happy
In the same field where we
have stood
To see your brother fly
away in Spring
In a light blue and silver
plane
Now the snow has covered
everything
I think we will be made
clean like the snow
I think we will become new
like the snow
To see him, to see him happy
To see him, to see him happy
Some winters are harder than
others
We are going to take our
cameras
And look through at black
trees with empty arms
And sled tracks wandering,
as we are.”
Karen Peris of The Innocence
Mission, the song “Snow”
off the album Birds of
My Neighborhood.
Stay well and stay warm if
it calls for it or cool if
need be. Strange weather
days...
See you in Febrrruary!
Chris Barlow
