The Crossing - October 2008
For those about to rock...we will rock
you!
AC/DC and a revamped Queen this month...
By the way, that Gary Louris/Mark Olson
album I mentioned last month, yea it didn’t come out, but I learned that
they have been signed to the New West Records label, home to such luminaries
as Steve Earle, the Drive By Truckers and the Old 97’s among quite a few
others. The album, still titled Ready for the Flood has been pushed
into the new year and should get some solid distribution with that label.
We will have to wait patiently for that. A few other records I know readers
are interested in that are slated for 2009 include those by Buddy Miller
and Pierce Pettis. The latter’s latest will apparently be called That
Kind of Love according to his official website. Buddy Miller, on the
other hand, has a compilation out this month. Also, by all accounts, a
long overdue album by Gillian Welch seems to be in the works for 2009 unless
she sneaks it in under the 2008 wire.
A whole lot of music releases on the menu
in the months ahead...from the major to the minor to the unsigned and indie.
From the popular to the unheard of. So much to hear and explore.
Movie-wise, most all of the big blockbusters
have now appeared with scheduled dates.
Choose wisely and as always, happy hunting...

LYRICS of the MONTH:
With apologies to our two candidates...
“Let’s have Christ our president
Let us have him for our king
Cast your vote for the carpenter
That you call the Nazarene
The only way we can ever beat
These crooked politician men
Is to run the money changers out of the
temple
And put the Carpenter in
O it’s Jesus Christ our president
God above our king
With a job and a pension for young and
old
We will make hallelujah ring
Every year we waste enough
To feed the ones who starve
We build our civilisation up
And we shoot it down with wars
But with the Carpenter on the seat
Away up in the capital town
The USA would be on the way prosperity
bound!”
Woody Guthrie, the song “Christ for President”
as performed by Wilco & Billy Bragg off the album Mermaid Avenue.
Happy Halloween!!
See you in November...
Chris Barlow
