The
Crossing - July 2008
Just when you thought it was safe to go
back in the water comes another edition of The Crossing...July style. Hot,
wet, humid, full of hot air and with a fin of danger...just the way we
like it.
Things slow down a bit for the start of
Summer, but there’s still alot being released. The Under a Blood Red
Sky document from U2 seems to be officially pushed back to August to
coincide with its DVD counterpart. The album is a 25th anniversary of the
infamous Red Rocks concert that took place in Colorado and pretty much
announced U2 to America in the year 1983. The show will be heard and seen
in its entirety for the first time officially on August 19th. In related
news, from all sources, the double disc reissues of U2’s first three albums
should arrive on the 22nd of this month. Certainly something to inspect,
if not buy. Another album of particular note is the new one from John Mellencamp
out on the 15th of July. He usually produces himself, so for him to step
out of the box a bit and get a producer as highly regarded as T Bone Burnett
is cause to make this new album worthy of closer inspection than usual.
I’ve heard one track already and it had a real groove to it with
an abundance of percussion to drive it along. Other albums of note are
new ones from Great Big Sea and Matthew Sweet. Also, The Stranger
box set by Billy Joel is a ‘whole enchilada’ kind of thing with rarities,
demos, videos and even concerts from the era.
Happy listening and viewing!

LYRICS of the MONTH:
I think all thinking grown-ups have probably
held the sentiment of the following song, especially in these modern times.
Amidst the blissful celebration ought to be some wondering where this country
is presently and where it’s going.
“The sky’s lightin’ up
Everybody’s so high
Come take my hand
It’s the 4th of July
God Bless America and all of that sh*t
Well I should probably feel better but
I feel I should quit
So raise the flag for the boys who have
paid their dues
So I could be free here and live with
these blues
You know it doesn’t seem right
Everybody’s so high
And I’m crying the blues on the 4th of
July
Take a walk downtown
It’s a beautiful day
Smoke a cigarette
Watch the parade
We’ll sing God Bless America and all of
that stuff
Yeah I should probably feel better but
I’ve had enough
So raise a flag for the boys who’ve paid
their dues
So I could live free here and live with
these blues
No it doesn’t seem right
Everybody’s so high
And I’m crying the blues on the 4th of
July
No it doesn’t seem right
Everybody’s so high
And I’m crying the blues on the 4th of
July.”
Jack Ingram, the song Red, White and Blues
off the Extra Volts EP released in 2003.
Never take our freedom for granted!!!
Do have a good time! Happy 4th everyone!!!
Be safe out there...
