You and the Evening Sky
Artist: Alli Rogers
Label: Independent
Time: 40:40

Alli Rogers is a songwriter. First and foremost. Once this fact is established, it gives perspective by which to enjoy her work. She is not a guitar virtuoso and she does not have extreme vocal range. But what she does, she does better than most of her peers. She writes about experiences beyond her years and communicates with refreshing honesty.

Vocally, Alli Rogers’ voice is innocent, yet fearless and enchanting. She doesn’t stray from the comfortable singer/songwriter sound. But sometimes it is nice for an artist to know where their limits are and to focus on where they can be their best.

Compared to her past work, the songwriting on _You and the Evening Sky_ is much more mature. There were glimpses in the past of greatness, but this album features more consistency in solid writing and memorable hooks. It’s good to see her progressing as a writer, but still with room to grow.

One thing that separates this album from her past projects is the production of Don Chaffer (Waterdeep). His influence is apparent on the instrumentation and simple depth that he brings to any project he works on. He seems to have found a way to take her sound to a more developed place. This corroboration seems to have succeeded quite well.

Overall, _You and the Evening Sky_ is a beautiful album from a maturing artist who hopefully has her best yet to come.
