Ta-Da
Artist: The Power Triplets Label: Independent Tracks: 10 As much as I enjoy really great lyric writing, instrumental music has come to hold a special place in my musical world. A really good lyric writer or wordsmith can bring you exactly where he wants you to go. Music without words on the other hand lets your imagination take you on a journey where ever you decide to let it. It can be to places of quiet and solitude or it an be to places of excitement and magical adventure. It all depends on where your imagination will carry you. You with the assistance of your musical host are the travel agent and tour guide. I first became aware of bassist Trip Wamsley back in 1996 with the release of his album entitled "Dancing About Architecture" and have been a huge fan ever since. Trip as of late has become a member of a group called "The Power Triplets" who have recently released their first project entitled "Ta-Da". This is not a Trip Wamsley album, although he is an integral part of the band, it is a trio effort and one of the best instrumental rock n roll albums I have heard in many years. The group consists of Tom Hurst on drums, Trip Wamsley on bass & Chris Nix on guitar. Chris Nix also served as the producer of the album. Sonically the music puts me in mind to a certain degree of some of the early material by "Fourth Estate". The Triplets though are not copying trios of the past, their music is definitely their own and is absolutely amazing. The skill these three young men show is immense, this could very well be the all time best rock instrumental album. If their live show in any way captures their recorded material they will definitely be a force to be reckoned with. Long live "The Power Triplets".
