Back in the day, primarily 30-40 years ago, it was commonplace to wear you faith on your sleeves in Christian music. You primarily could hear it in overt lyrics and the "altar calls" when a band/artist gave a performance. When you're an impressionable teenager, like I was then, the lyrics plug rather seamlessly into your understanding of faith in God.

Now that I am older and somewhat wiser regarding the Christian music industry, I have become more critical of lyrical clichés in regards to faith. Reilly wears their theological bent on sleeve ala Calvinism. Realizing that scholars through the centuries have been deeply divided down Armenian and Calvinistic lines of belief, and to this point no resolve, it is a spiritual turn off.

This is homogenized modern rock, if you want to call it that. When I even happen to pass by the Family Life radio or a Christian radio station that sports the Nashville industry charts, I cannot help but wonder if true, honest to goodness creativity is held on a short leash in the interest of homogenized record sales. Reilly deserves a passing glance, but boredom easily follows suit. They are, at this point, just another face in the crowd.
