'Till We See The Shore Artist: Seabird Label: Credential Recordings Length: 12 tracks Seabird's 'Till We See the Shore, is a very sophisticated debut. Seasoned by nearly five years of performances, both secular and Christian, this Cincinnati, Ohio band offers a Britpop indy sound that Credential Recordings searchs out so effectively. Their catchy and well crafted songs are somewhat subtle in Spiritual substance, but it is easy to surmise that the source of hope for the band is the Lord. "Rescue," the first single, has an more overt Christian point of view and hits at the need for a Savior in desperate times. A nifty piano figures opens the other worldly "Apparitions," a story about a ghostly attack. "Not Alone" is a tribute to a woman much wiser than her young years and a good general philosophy is purposed in "Sometimes." But several tracks are really outstanding."Falling For You" is a most beautifully simple love song. 'Till We See the Shore' has a heart wrenching melody and lyrics to match. "Sing it loud and clear 'cause I promise you, someone will hear you sing." An ace pop song, "Black and Blue" with its "96 Tears" two chord progression, talks about the hits we take everyday and need to move on, bruises and all. Seabird's album is very 'now' sounding with a lot of Coldplay in the grooves. It is an very enjoyable debut and one that needs multiple chances-a task you will warm to quickly. Bob Felberg
I am happy that the keyboard has taken back a main seat in some alternative
bands these days. Very akin to the sound of Coldplay and Aqualung, their
impassioned lyrics bleed of bittersweet emotions, vulnerability, pain,
and triumph. A three-member band, Seabird, is poised to take on the big
boys in the Christian market and garner much attention. Strong tracks are
“Not Alone,” “Rescue”, the anthem-like “Let Me Go On,” and “Maggie Mahoney”.
For a debut, this is very strong. I will not be surprised to see these
guys make it big. (thecannyshark)August 2008
