Waiting for the Sound Artist: Slipstream Label: Slipstream Music (Indie Label!!) Here we go again. I love to review indie label music. This is the best way to hear new sounds before the industry has a chance to go pouncing about the album and ripping it to radio playable shreds. I slid this little bad boy into the player in my car and turn it up a notch. Much to my surprise and much like the title waiting for me on the other side was a completely unique and convincing sound that I had not heard before. As far as indie music goes, this was definitely a unique experience. The vocals were smooth, then rough, the deliberately harsh, then melodic. The drumming was a definite show of pure rhythmic skill, and the guitars, were just flailing away at every turn. I was intrigued by how they changed up their sound from song to song. Not staying focused on the mainstream style that has so defined the modern indie music scene, but more swiftly jumping into the “slipstream” of difference and exclusivity that bands are starting to cling to in order to break out of the every day scene. This is definitely a band to watch in the coming months. I feel like this could be the best unsigned band of the year thus far. You need to find this album. They can be contacted at www.slipstreammusic.com and also they have a glorious myspace, which is www.myspace.com/theslipstream . And on a side note, the insert to the cd says, that ‘under normal circumstances law prohibits unauthorized duplication of this album. However Slipstream humbly requests that you make copies of it and distribute it among your families, friends, coworkers, acquaintances, complete strangers, enemies, and anyone else you can think of’ to which I firmly believe is the premise for indie music in general--to give freely to all. Cause the music is a gift. Rev MC
