The
Crossing - November 2009
November brings another solid
month of tunes and cinema yet again. DVD’s/Blu-ray discs drop like rain
(possibly snow) from now all the way up ‘til Christmas. (…and even a little
into 2010.) For example, meatballs and other foods will be dropping in
early January, cloudy or not. Many live releases will be coming out as
well as they always do. Whether in CD or DVD format or both, live releases
from stellar shows given earlier in the year will be foisted upon the consuming
masses.
A question was posed to me
how I choose the Lyrics of the Month?
I try to choose songs with
universal or seasonal appeal mainly. Some songs may have something to do
with current events. I also, in most cases, try to choose an artist that
has a release during the given month. Some of the songs may also be a bit
geared to experiences that I have had personally, which I figure is natural,
but maybe they can be of help in giving a certain perspective. I kind of
think of them as thoughts of the day (in this case, a month) and a good
way to conclude this often lengthy list. Hopefully you check out the song
and maybe discover a new artist.
People close to me have described
the list as making their eyes glaze over before they are less than half
way down the page. I hope it’s not that unpleasant. I figure I’m covering
a lot of ground though. A cool thing to do is to go to the mp3 page on
Amazon.com and pick out some of the artists names on the list and listen
to some samples and see if they appeal to you. I do this fairly frequently
to get an idea of what something sounds like. You can discover a lot of
great music this way too, of course!
For any questions, comments
or to submit album release dates for obscure artists, don’t forget to see
my email address at the very bottom of the page.
Happy hunting…

LYRICS of the MONTH:
“I know when they built this
house
Out of rocks from the river
mouth
They thought it'd never
come down
Not while we're around
Some things are made to last
Other things we know must
pass
Nothing we do
Stops time coming through
My father left me here with
a map crumpled in my hand
I try to follow, but there's
days when I just don't understand
And when we fall down in
time
Washed in trouble we thought
we'd left behind
Just let the river carry
you
Lift your head back up to
the clearer view
See the high water starting
to flood
Bringing down all the rocks
and the mud
And if it won't stop
It'll wash away all we've
got
Down in the valley there's
a rumble in the trees
It's hard to keep your head
when the ground's moving ‘neath your feet
And when we fall down in
time
Washed in trouble we thought
we'd left behind
Let the storm pass on through
And work your way back up
to the clearer view.”
Blue Rodeo, the song ‘Clearer
View’ off of the album Palace of Gold released in 2002.
Have a great and hearty Thanksgiving!!
See you in December…
