The
Crossing - April 2009
April. Is it April already?
Still pretty cold out as of this writing, but I know it’s gonna warm up
soon. That’s the best part. With the turn in weather comes the outdoor
concert-going season. Yes, it’s that time of year to go out and support
your local and maybe, not so local music scene. Festivals, anyone? Artists
big and not so big will be hitting the road to play places big and not
so big in an area near you, unless you live in Wyoming. But, hey, some
of these artists may have to drive through Wyoming so you never know. With
the change in weather comes lots and lots of new releases. As you can clearly
see from the list below, the music release schedule becomes flooded. Rock
needs to be released. You need to rock. Rock surfaces at music stores big
and not so big near you. Rock also appears on a little something we call
the internet...Itunes, for example.
On Saturday, April 18th rock
will be making an appearance at your local indie music stores for the 2nd
annual Record Store Day. I don’t know who came up with Record Store Day,
but it seems to be a reminder to us all that record stores actually still
exist. I’ve seen them. I’ve been in them. I’ve browsed around in them.
I’ve even occasionally bought things in them. You can still do this! In
the St. Louis area...here are some to check out: Vintage Vinyl in the Delmar
Loop, Euclid Records in Webster Groves, CD Warehouse on Tesson Ferry in
South County, CD Reunion at the Hawk’s Nest shopping center in St. Charles
and for a good indie movie store, check out the Movie Nut in Kirkwood.
Rock ‘N Roll never dies...music stores have died. Nobody knows how this
equation will work itself out, but supporting your local music stores and
local musicians and local establishments that present live rock to you...will
help rock survive well into the decades to come and hopefully well
through this young century.
An ad for a local, indie
Record store here in town (Euclid Records), says they will have live music
on an outdoor stage with no less than seven bands throughout the day, including
the well-known St. Louis band The Bottle Rockets. They will also have food
from two neighboring restaurants, plus a storewide sale and sidewalk discounts.
That takes place from 10 to 7 on the day. I imagine every city/town with
some decent indie stores will have promotions to celebrate the 2nd annual
Record Store Day. Maybe a good day to go on a tour of your local record
stores!!
Quite a variety of music
coming out in the days ahead and most all of the Oscar nominated movies
have now shown up on the radar...
Keep rockin’!!!

LYRICS of the MONTH:
A great song from a legendary
artist...
“Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
Just like children sleepin’
We could dream this night
away
But there’s a full moon risin’
Let’s go dancing in the
light
We know where the music’s
playin’
Let’s go out and feel the
night
Because I’m still in love
with you
I want to see you dance
again
Because I’m still in love
with you
On this harvest moon
When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my
heart
But now it’s gettin’ late
And the moon is climbin’
high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin’ in your eye
Because I’m still in love
with you
I want to see you dance
again
Because I’m still in love
with you
On this harvest moon.”
Neil Young, the song “Harvest
Moon” off the album Harvest Moon released in 1992.
Happy Easter!!!
See you in May...
