The Crossing - September 2009

As I write this, it’s September 11th, the 8th anniversary of 9/11. So, it got me to thinking about where music and movies fit into the big picture. We take comfort in the songs and films whether they make us laugh or cry. Whether you’re mourning the loss of a loved one or are miles away from home away at college, you can take solace in your favorite songs and movies. The river of art never ends…you pick up on new things to listen to and see all the time. And, in this day and age, it’s easier than ever to do this. Music and movies are now, more than ever, more transportable. So, whether it’s discovering or rediscovering The Beatles to finding out what’s new indie-wise, to the films of John Hughes to checking out what’s happening at the nearest silver screen, take comfort in your music and film buddies and share with your real friends and family.

LYRICS of the MONTH:

“I can see it in your eyes
What I know in my heart is true
That our love it has faded
Like the summer run through
So we'll walk down the shoreline
One last time together
Feel the wind blow our wanderin' hearts
Like a feather
But who knows what's waiting
In the wings of time
Dry your eyes
We’re gonna go where we can shine
Don't be hiding in sorrow
Or clinging to the past
With your beauty so precious
And the season so fast
No matter how cold the horizon appear
Or how far the first night
When I held you near
We’re gonna rise from these ashes like a bird of flame
Take my hand
We're gonna go where we can shine
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Shine
For all that we struggle
For all we pretend
You know it don't come down to nothing
Except love in the end
And ours is a road that is strewn with goodbyes
But as it unfolds, as it all unwinds
Remember your soul is the one thing
You can't compromise
Step out of the shadow
We're gonna go where we can shine
We're gonna go where we can shine
We're gonna go where we can shine
(And look, and look and look and look)
Through the windows of midnight
Moonfoam and silver.”

David Gray, the song “Shine” off of the album A Century Ends released in 1993.

See you in October…
