The Terry Schiavo Story

Joni Erickson Tada devoted two episodes of her television show to Terri Schiavo's story, and its implications for everyone in less than perfect health. These episodes are combined into a ninety minute documentary that is well produced and presents in a calm and respectful manner both sides of the issue of whether or not Terri Schiavo should have been be kept alive . As a renouned advocate for the disabled, the side of the argument Tada advocates is never in doubt, but great lengths taken not to sensationalize the story of the ten year legal battle to keep Terri fed and hydrated that ultimately involved local, state, federal courts and legislatures. The media drama at the end, when the entire world followed the story, is downplayed, and every effort is made not to villify her husband, Michael Schiavo, who initiated the court action. Stripping the media hysteria and opportunists from the situation brings the story down to its fundamental elements, it's larger implications and legal precidence. Anyone interested in getting past the cable news marathon to the heart of Terri Schiavo's situation will find this to be a thorough and informative presentation, and an outstanding conversation starter.
