Come Closer
Artist: Majxsty
Label:
Independent
Length 11 tracks, 39:18

On her newest CD, Majxsty (aka Kimberly Williams) completely flips her content, if not her style. While her 2005 debut _Wicked_ was full of both the sound and the language of the streets, her newest is a pure gospel rap album from start to finish. While the dirty sound of the streets remains, Majxsty has found her missing piece.

The lead single and title track sums it up:
I listened to Your words but still I turned away
I'm thinkin', 'Lord, just let me live to pray another day
I got some things I got to do before I take a bow
I'm gonna make some time for You, but Lord, just not now'
I take a look at myself but now my soul's numb
I gain a bundle of wealth but look at what I've become...
Majxsty has "Come Closer" to her Lord, and the rest of the album seems bound and determined to draw others to Him as well.

Majxsty's strength is in her lyrics and delivery."This Ain't Right" answers those who would automatically flush her new album based on her last one. "Free" is a triumphant anthem of the liberty found in Christ.

If I have a major complaint about this album, it is in the production. "I Never Knew" is hampered by the Casio-keyboard loop that forms the music, and the entire album is not EQ'ed properly for a rap album. The entire album could use a good bass boost; the cruisers on the strip need to be able to blaze this album. That aside, this is a solid album, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Majxsty.
