Crossing - February 2010
Sing with me and Lou-ie (Louis
Armstrong):
"Oh when the Saints go marching
in. Oh when the Saints go marching in. Lord, I want to be in that number.
Oh when the Saints go marching in." (traditional.)
Hey, I admit it. No bag to
wear over this head. I have been rooting on the New Orleans Saints, formerly
the Aints, since 1983 when I lived in the New Orleans area (Slidell) as
a young teenager. My family had moved down there for a couple of years
and the football Cardinals, formerly of the St. Louis area, weren't so
good at the time and frankly the Saints weren't so good either, but I figured
I would have two horses in the race and adopted the Saints as my second
team. Turns out they were the first of the two teams to win a Super Bowl.
Of course, I am also a Rams fan, but currently they are known as the team
that shall not be named for obvious reasons. Boy, are they bad. But, no
matter. The Saints are the talk of the nation in recent days and their
sweet victory over the Indianapolis Colts should give just a small glimmer
of hope as to things to come for the fair Crescent City in the days ahead.
Hey, it can't hurt. And something tells me, Peyton Manning will have his
day in the sun once again.
GO SAINTS!!!

LYRICS of the MONTH:
Two songs adopted by the
2010 Super Bowl Champion, New Orleans Saints.
"I cried to my daddy
on the telephone, How long now
Til the clouds unroll
and you come home, The line went
But the shadows still
remain since your descent, Your descent
I cried to my daddy
on the telephone, How long now
Til the clouds unroll
and you come home, The line went
But the shadows still
remain since your descent, Your descent
The saints are coming,
the saints are coming
I say no matter how
I try, I realize there's no reply
The saints are coming,
the saints are coming
I say no matter how
I try, I realize there's no reply
A drowning sorrow floods
the deepest grief, How long now
Til a weather change
condemns belief, The storm sails
This paternal guide
once had his day, Once had his day
The saints are coming,
the saints are coming
I say no matter how
I try, I realize there's no reply
The saints are coming,
the saints are coming
I say no matter how
I try, I realize there's no reply
I say no matter how
I try, I realize there's no reply
I say no matter how
I try, I realize there's no reply."
Richard Jobson and Stuart
Adamson (The Skids), the song `The Saints are Coming' appeared on the album
_Scared To Dance_ in 1979.
`The Saints are Coming' was
later performed live in September 2006 on Monday Night Football by both
U2 and Green Day performing together.
And:
"We are traveling in the
footsteps
Of those who've gone before,
And we'll all be reunited,
On a new and sunlit shore,
Oh, when the saints go marching
in
Oh, when the saints go marching
in
Lord, how I want to be in
that number
When the saints go marching
in
And when the sun refuse to
shine
And when the sun refuse
to shine
Lord, how I want to be in
that number
When the sun refuse to shine
And when the moon turns red
with blood
And when the moon turns
red with blood
Lord, how I want to be in
that number
When the moon turns red
with blood
Oh, when the trumpet sounds
its call
Oh, when the trumpet sounds
its call
Lord, how I want to be in
that number
When the trumpet sounds
its call
Some say this world of trouble,
Is the only one we need,
But I'm waiting for that
morning,
When the new world is revealed.
Oh When the new world is
revealed
Oh When the new world is
revealed
Lord, how I want to be in
that number
When the new world is revealed
Oh, when the saints go marching
in
Oh, when the saints go marching
in
Lord, how I want to be in
that number
When the saints go marching
in."
(Traditional; sung and arranged
in many different ways), the song "When the Saints Go Marching In" was,
in part, made famous by New Orleans native Louis Armstrong's version first
recorded in the 1930's.
Spring is just around the
corner.
See you in March.
