| The
Crossing - March 2010
Spring is here and the time
is right for dancing in the streets, so the paraphrase goes.
The Hurt Locker was
the big winner last night, winning both best Picture and best Director.
(Kathryn Bigelow.) It IS already available on DVD/Blu-ray, in case you
missed it, having been released in January. Some movies that were also
big winners, such as Crazy Heart which won for best Actor in Jeff
Bridges and Avatar which won various technical awards are both doing
well in theaters, so it'll be just a little while longer before a DVD/Blu-ray
release date is announced for both of them. Supposedly, Avatar will
be out in late April, but if it's still grossing millions you can bet that
it will be pushed back. It is currently the biggest grossing film of all-time.
Other big winners such as Precious and The Blind Side will
be out this month.
40 years later, one of the
greatest guitarists ever, Jimi Hendrix will have his estate cleaned out
and vacuumed with the release of Valleys of Neptune on March 9th,
an album of rarities and alternate recordings. Also, Jimi's studio albums
will get the Deluxe treatment each with a DVD. Other Hendrix releases shall
see the light of day throughout the year.
The month kicks off with
the rollicking sounds of New York City's greatest Irish led bar band,
Larry Kirwan and Black 47 and winds down with a Steven Page-less Toronto
outfit known as The Barenaked Ladies.
Great movies, great music,
what else do you want? This is The Crossing for March of 2010. Get rockin'!
Or, at least get some popcorn and get Avataring. Yes, it's a word. No it's
not. It could be in the Na'vi language? Gotcha! So, that's what Ben Stiller,
all dressed in blue and with a tail, was saying at the Oscars! (P.S. If
you have not seen Avatar yet and you want to know what all the hoopla is
about, be sure to see it in groundbreaking, awesome 3D. This is not the
3D of yesteryear, but a whole new breakthrough in the 3D process using
specially designed 3D cameras. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland
is in theaters now using this same 3D. You can't beat this! Get used to
it, because it's gonna become very common. Quidditch. Anyone?)

LYRICS of the MONTH:
Put a ribbon round my
neck and call me a libertine
I will sing you songs
of dreams I used to dream
I will sail away on seas
of silver and gold
Until I reach my home.
Give me a guitar and I'll
be your troubadour
Your strolling minstrel
12th century door to door
I don't know anymore,
if that feeling is past will is last
How can you be sure?
And how do I know if you're
feeling the same as me?
And how do I know if
that's the only place you want to be?
Give me a stage and I'll
be your rock and roll queen
Your 20th century cover
of a magazine
Rolling Stone here I
come, watch out everyone I'm singing my song.
Give me a festival and
I'll be your Glastonbury star
The lights are shining
everyone knows who you are
Singing songs about dreams
about hopes about schemes
ooooh, they just came
true.
And how do I know if you're
feeling the same as me?
And how do I know if
that's the only place you want to be?
And if you want it to
then there's nothing left to do
Lets start a band, lets
start a band, lets start a band, lets start a band.
Amy MacDonald, the song "Let's
Start a Band" off of the album This is the Life released in 2007.
Happy Spring!!!
See you in April!
