| The
Crossing - June 2010
Beginning with two new songs
from Rush and winding down with the DVD release of the Rush documentary
Beyond a Lighted Stage, we have another solid month of music. Sandwiched
in between is a bluesy new record from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
and a highly anticipated new album from New Jersey upstarts The Gaslight
Anthem. The Cowboy Junkies resurface, The Roots resurface, Sarah MacLachlan
resurfaces, Teenage Fanclub resurface. There's a lot of resurfacing going
on! John Mellencamp releases a not to be missed themed box set that will
have you singing `ain't that America for you and me'. We Are Scientists,
Marah, Stars and The Midwinters make a bid for the surface. U2 rocks southern
California, Bruce Springsteen rocks London and the four DVD box set LIFE
rocks your brain in brilliant crystalline technicolor with God's creation.
What more do you want?
Yea, I know, BP to stop destroying
the Gulf of Mexico. But we won't get into that right now.
Keep your dreams soaring
and your spirits high and maybe we can dream up a better world and turn
it into reality.
Keep your hearts and minds
open. Keep listening, watching, reading and exploring and the answers are
out there.
Maybe, in some small but
not insubstantial way, this list can help.
To find out about any or
all of the below artists, remember to check official websites and fan sites,
myspace, facebook and online retailers such as cdbaby.com and amazon.com
as examples. Print magazines at your local bookstore can be a big help
too. Free fanzines often found at record stores can help also. Your new
favorite band awaits.

LYRICS of the MONTH:
At the moment, we'll keep
on with the lyrics. Especially when they are as pertinent as this. (Plus,
I'm kind of in a Rush kick at the moment.)
"Tough times demand tough
talk demand tough hearts demand tough songs demand.
We can rise and fall like
empires
Flow in and out like the
tide
Be vain and smart, humble
and dumb
We can hit and miss like
pride
We can circle around like
hurricanes
Dance and dream like lovers
Attack the day like birds
of prey
Or scavengers under cover
Look in to the eye of the
storm
Look out for the force without
form
Look around at the sight
and sound
Look in, look out, look
around
We can move with savage grace
To the rhythms of the night
Cool and remote like dancing
girls
In the heat of the beat
and the lights
We can wear the rose of romance
An air of joie de vivre
Too tender hearts upon our
sleeves
Or skin as thick as thieves'
Rising falling at force ten
We twist the world and ride
the wind
Look in
Look the storm in the eye
Look out
To the sea and the sky
Look around
At the sight and sound
Look in, look out, look
around
Tough times demand tough
talk demand tough hearts demand tough songs demand."
Neil Peart (Rush), the song
"Force Ten" off the album Hold Your Fire released in 1987.
Happy fathers day to all
the dads out there.
Happy Summer!! Stay cool.
See you in July.
