In doing so he creates a shrill, high pitched voice that five decades later is still a thriving product. I am referring to three chipmunks known as Alvin, Simon and Theodore. Ever since they sang about wanting a plane that loops the loop for Christmas, the world has held these three pint sized mega stars close to heart. With several albums, movies and TV shows under their belt they show no sign of slowing or fading away. And they are back this Christmas with a brand new feature length film, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. In this adventure the guys have to attend High School while their manager Dave (Jason Lee) is laid up in the hospital. While there they agree to represent the school in a talent contest. They seem to be a shoe in until three Chippettes show up and try to steal their thunder. After all what could be more popular than three singing male chipmunks? Exactly, three female chipmunks. If that weren’t enough Simon and Theodore must contend with Alvin’s (Justin Long) ever swelling ego and selfish behavior. With Dave in the hospital it is up to his nephew Toby (Zachary Levi) to keep everyone safe, sane and singing. This is a cute film that holds little for the adults but lots for the pre teens in your family. And that is who should enjoy it. Filled with contemporary tunes crooned in perfect chipmunk manner it will have your young movie fans dancing in the aisles. Plus these little rodents are simply fun to watch. Parents will appreciate the fact that during all of the hi-jinx and harmonizing is a strong message of family and how important that unit is. Alvin learns a great lesson about keeping family priorities and following through on your word. The Chippettes are voiced by well three known funny ladies though you can’t really tell by listening. Brittany (Christina Applegate), Eleanor (Amy Poehler) and Jeanette (Anna Faris) are starry eyed and ready to hit the big time. They fall into the hands of an ousted record exec who wants to use them for his personal gain. They have to learn fast whose side is the right side. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel is rated PG for some mild rude humor. You will have to look close to find anything offensive here. Unless of course little chipmunks shaking their booties strikes a nerve. I give this one 4 out of 5 class clowns. Simply because it knows its audience and gives them what they want. Perfect for us adults? Not even close. But that is not the point. Kids need to have fun too and this one is certainly good for that.
