Meteor
Artist: The Shazam http://www.theshazam.com/ Label: Not Lame Records Time: 11 Songs They just don’t make rock ‘n’ roll like they used to. Or do they? On Meteor Tennessee-based The Shazam gets major points for creating an amazingly catchy collection of tunes that manages to sound fresh and retro (in a good way) all at once. Remember when rock was hooky and exhilarating and garage-y and you wanted to sing along? The Shazam remembers and delivers the goods on their 5th rockin’/power-poppin’ release. Meteor features a bevy of great tunes that will grab onto your ears one first listen. Visions of Cheap Trick, The Who, Tom Petty and the best of the British Invasion all dance through the listener’s head as Meteor spins in orbit. Hans Rotenberry wrote and sings these songs with an urgent flair that meshes perfectly with the hard-charging tunes. This is the kind of feel good rock ‘n’ roll charge that radio needs today (and I wish these guys would get some airplay)! The only bummer is NFU (Not F***ed Up), a gratuitous slice of F-bombs that doesn’t quite fit with the feel good vibe of the songs that surround it on Meteor. But hey, if you don’t like it just skip that one on the iPod and you’ll still end up with one the best musical rockin’ rides in recent memory.
