In the Land of the Fear of Men Artist: Jason Harms Quintet Label: Jason Harms Quintet 10 tracks / 51 minutes It's rare to find a record that combines jazz with a Christian message. From the Miles Davis influenced trumpet of "Cry My Brothers" to the Monk-like piano of "Man Will Find His Knee" to the bossa nova inspired "Yet Will I Exult in the Lord," Jason Harms delivers with The Land of the Fear of Men. Jason has assembled an excellent band for this recording, all very accomplished jazz musicians. Jason's vocals are reminiscent of John Pizzarelli or Kurt Elling, yet with his own distinct style. The music is all written or arranged by Jason and most of the lyrics are his (some lyrics are borrowed from Habakkuk and there is one nicely reworked hymn from the 1600s). Charts and lyrics are available on the Jason Harms website. This is excellent straight ahead jazz music. The Land of the Fear of Men is a real treat for those who enjoy jazz and love the Lord.
