Welcome to the Freak Show (CD)
I like the excitement of live albums! I like the stage chatter which
gives me the feeling of actually being at the concert without leaving my
living room. Welcome to the Freak Show is an excellent live
album. It's a great way to relive the concert experience or to get
the feel of the live show if you didn't make it to the concert. While I
actually prefer the video for the combined sound and visual experience,
this album is well worth purchasing. It's a must for the millions
of dc Talk fans. The CD includes several covers of secular hits not previously
recorded by dc Talk, such as "Help" by the Beatles, "It's the End of the
World as We Know It" by REM, and "Fly Like an Eagle" by Steve Miller.
Several of the live versions of dc Talk's own songs are actually better
than the original versions, showing further development. Like it, love
it, need it, buy it! --Shari Lloyd
Crowd pleasers dc Talk strut their stuff in this live concert recording. The Jesus Freak sound dominates the show, but they do acknowledge their rap past by including "Luv is a Verb" and "Jesus is Just Alright." Covers/adaptations of "Help" and "It's the End of the World as We Know It" link the show to the larger world of popular music. For a live recording, the quality of the singing and instruments is very good, but the studio albums would still be a better introduction for the uninitiated. This CD is for their fans.-----Linda T.
