Jesus Saves
Artist: Greg Long
Label: Myrrh
"My focus on this record was wanting to zero in on the message of
Christ--who He is, what He's done, and what our response is to that.
Some may say I'm oversimplifying it, but I think the title track says it
beautifully:
Complicated living needs a complicated cure
At least that's what I've heard
But suddenly what I believe
Gripped the very heart of me
As simple as it seems
Nothing says it better than
Jesus Saves..."
This song, "Jesus Saves," is also my favorite with its dance beat, black
gospel choruses, and funky guitar work.
Produced by the Elefante Brothers, Chris Harris, and Don Koch, most
of the music is similar to Greg's previous two albums, Cross My Heart
and Days of Grace. Solidly pop, it's gotten him three number
one singles and a Dove nomination for "New Artist of the Year." Previous
fans of Greg's will be happy with this release. The lyrics are clearly
Christian with themes of mercy, faith, and redemption but they seem to
avoid being cliches. Fans of 4 Him, Clay Crosse, and Aaron/Jeoffrey will
also find much to enjoy here. This album continues to grow on me
with each listen.
