Velasquez Launches Her Own Label
After more than a decade of recording and over three million record sales, Jaci Velasquez has started her own record label, Apostrophe Records. With the key management team including her brother and her mom, Jaci wants Apostrophe to stay small and focused: “I want Apostrophe to be a label driven by artists and songs, not just by what a marketing machine needs in order to sell, sell, sell.” Jaci’s commitment to Apostrophe’s artists is sincere. “I didn’t want to start a label until I found an artist that I truly believed in and wanted to promote,” she said of Michael Cook, whose debut album Imprint will be Apostrophe’s first release, due sometime in 2004. A small label that will not shy away from “out-of-the-box” recording projects, Apostrophe is driven by a small team who attributes all of their blessings to God. Jaci adds, “My goal now is to take what He has given me and reach out to help others in their dreams.” Apostrophe Records will have
its official launch during GMA week this year.
Jaci Velasquez Sings For
President Bush & 101st Troops
Jaci Velasquez spent her morning in Fort Campbell, KY entertaining President Bush and the troops of the 101st. President Bush came to Fort Campbell to welcome home the heroes as all of the troops from the 101st have returned home. This momentous visit brought out roughly 20,000 people as it marks the one year anniversary of the War in Iraq. Jaci started her portion of the event by singing “God Bless America” and continued with two of her own songs “God Loves You” and “Con Tu Amor .” Joining Velasquez was country star Darryl Worley and others. Taylor
Sorensen on Tour for Debut Album
Taylor Sorensen, the newest artist in the Rocketown family, is partnering with Pura Vida Coffee in a promotional tour across the Midwest in support of his full-length March 23 debut, The Overflow. Sorensen will spend the latter half of March visiting radio, retail and media gatekeepers along with stopping at several college campuses to play concerts and speak on behalf of Pura Vida Coffee, a Seattle-based, charitably-owned specialty coffee company. The 23-year-old artist is also currently celebrating his first No. 1 radio hit with The Overflow’s debut single, “Love Somebody Else,” topping the CRW Rock chart the week before the album streets. Sorensen’s partnership with Pura Vida stems from his ongoing interest in the Fair Trade movement and his firm belief that love needs to be about action, an idea that is also the theme of The Overflow. Pura Vida uses all of its resources to benefit at-risk children and their families in coffee-growing countries. The company is committed to carry only certified Fair Trade, organic, shade-grown coffee which helps to raise living standards for farmers and their communities and protect the environment. Sorensen will be playing songs from The Overflow and talking about Pura Vida’s mission at nearly a dozen campuses across the MidWest including Notre Dame, Bethel College, Loyola University, Trinity International, Hope College, Valparaiso and Calvin College. Sorensen will also be opening a show for Over the Rhine at Indiana Wesleyan University during his two-week promo run. at Grrr Records
We at Grrr Records are pleased to announce our newest addition to the litter: The Remnants. These old-school punk rockers have toured several times with Headnoise and have a great sound that we're eager for you to hear. Brent Stubblefield (guitar, vocals) and Tripper Christie (bass, vocals), together the group's main creative force, hail from Alabama but now make their home here at the Jesus People USA community in Chicago. With drummer Steve Hash they have forged Songs from the Hell Hole —a raw, energetic project with lyrics that are honest and challenging. Musically, these guys are all that you'd expect from a punk band —loud guitars, bass, drums and screaming— but also include an element of their southern heritage with the occasional use of the mandolin. John
Fischer’s Fifteenth Book, Love Him in the Morning, Due June 4
Award-winning, best-selling author John Fischer releases his fifteenth book, Love Him in the Morning, an inspirational offering from Revell June 4. When a twenty-something John Fischer penned, “Love Him In The Morning,” also known as the "All Day Song," he reached a new generation searching for inner solutions to world problems. Little did he know that song would become a favorite at church camps, in youth groups and in church hymnals today. As he did writing the song, “Love Him In The Morning,” thirty years ago, John Fischer has again crafted a powerful and profound message designed to motivate generations to seek God. The book, a lifetime in the making, reflects on God's faithfulness through his famous lyrics: Love Him in the morning when
you see the sun arising;
In the book, Fischer shows how a relationship with God can be as simple as: Love and be loved. With intimate, conversational and provocative narrative, readers will experience the wonder of God in the morning when all is fresh and new, the yearning for God at night when grace and forgiveness is needed and the presence of God in the in-between time. “When it comes to religion, we have a tendency to be much too complicated,” says Fischer in Love Him in the Morning. “And I think I finally understand why. We complicate faith because we want to be in control. Keep it just complicated enough so that I feel like I’m accomplishing something with all my religiosity. Keep it complicated so that I think I can do something to earn God’s approval. That’s religion. Faith, just believing God for who he is and what he says, seems too easy sometimes. But that’s his call.” More information on John Fischer can be found at www.fischtank.com, www.revell.com (Revell’s new website is scheduled to launch this month). Fusebox
Prepares for Sophomore Release
Fusebox is putting the final touches on their long-awaited follow-up to 2002's Lost In Worship. Their sophomore project, Once Again, will be released by Elevate Records and Inpop Records on June 15, 2004. "This is really my first album in a lot of ways because it’s gotten to the point where I stand behind it all," notes lead singer Billy Buchanan, who wrote or co-wrote seven of the album's ten songs. "There’s something on the album for everyone." Much of the album's versatility can be traced to Fusebox’s tag team with a wide array of producers, including Third Day’s Mac Powell, Otto Price, Quinlan, Joel Smallbone, Ainslie Grosser, and Buchanan himself. Buchanan is currently touring with the rock opera "!Hero", joining artists such as Rebecca St. James, Michael Tait, and T-bone. Buchanan is reprising his role as "Kai", the evil priest, on the second leg of the tour which will hit 19 markets in April and May, including stops at Universal Ampitheatre in Los Angeles, and the Ryman Auditorium in Nashvile. Group Restructures
The Butterfly Group has restructured, naming founding partner Michael J. Rinaldi as Chief Executive Officer and President, and fellow managing partner Brad Mathias as Chief Operations Officer; in addition, Butterfly has formed a strategic partnership with One Voice Records, a Contemporary Christian Latin label with previous operations in Miami, Fla. The announcement was also made that the anticipated deal between Fusion Entertainment Inc. and The Butterfly Group that was set to finalize December 2003 did not materialize. Both parties agreed that the timing was not right for the merger of the companies. “As a founder of The Butterfly Group,” shares Rinaldi, CEO/President, “I’m thrilled about the new direction the company is taking. We’re excited about the artists that God is bringing our way who have a heart for ministry and honesty in their songwriting. The company is continuing lines of the niche products that George King conceived, such as Songs for Sleepless Nights and Senior Select. George is no longer a part of The Butterfly Group, but we wish him much success with Dove Canyon Films where he is a partner. We are grateful for his impact here.” Under the new structure, daily operations, finance, and administration will be headed by Brad Mathias as the COO/Managing Partner at The Butterfly Group. Mathias joined Butterfly in the summer of 2003 and oversaw the corporate restructuring. Mathias reflects on the changes at Butterfly over the past ten months, “After seeing the adjustments in the music industry in general, Butterfly has chosen to adapt early in its existence to embrace the role of being a premier independent label group.” Managing partners Rinaldi and Mathias explained their continuing commitment to improve the relevance of all The Butterfly Group labels. “We feel strongly that we have been called by God to provide an accessible platform for Christian artists to express their hearts through music and media. It is our hope to provide Christian consumers and retailers with authentic, divinely inspired musical projects that will actively minister to their lives.” The Butterfly Group also defined key personnel in the new label structure. Brian Hardin has been hired to head creative services, as well as to contribute to A&R of artist and niche driven products. Linda Kowatch remains with The Butterfly Group as head of the marketing department, as well as continuing to supervise the A&R for select releases and children’s product. Veronne Carter will continue heading up A&R for gospel and hip-hop, as well as overseeing the production for The Butterfly Group labels. A strategic partnership with One Voice, a Contemporary Christian Latin label, and The Butterfly Group has been finalized. Jose Garcés Jr. will be in Nashville, Tenn. full time doing A&R for One Voice. Garcés say, “With the ever growing Latin population consuming music, I’m glad One Voice found a home in The Butterfly Group.” The Butterfly Group, located in Franklin, Tennessee, is dedicated to the creative presentation of the Christian message through music and media. The sub-labels of The Butterfly Group include Christian Records (www.christianrecords.net), Gospel 1 (www.gospel1.net), Flying Leap Records (www.flyingleaprecords.net), Butterfly Kids, One Voice, and Tachycardia. For more information on The Butterfly Group, visit www.butterflygroup.net. Sara Awards 'Scavenger Hunt' Prize With Sara Groves releasing her new INO Record The Other Side of Something next Tuesday, she partnered to present a contest for radio stations. The prize for the "virtual scavenger hunt" was a free concert by Groves for the station. New Orleans area fans can look forward to Sara coming to town as WBSH won the hunt. This fun and in-depth contest was a perfect avenue for Sara to show her support and appreciation for Christian radio and its ability to touch listeners lives. The contest, which ran during the month of February, consisted of a virtual scavenger hunt for radio programmers, incorporating the Internet, email, and phone to find clues and directions leading to the grand prize. The winning station was chosen from a random drawing of radio programmers who completed the interactive steps in the virtual scavenger hunt. With this concert being free of artist honorarium, travel, and lodging expenses, the station is able to sell tickets or take donations using the proceeds for their station. "This contest is just like an episode of Oprah! We've wanted to do an event like this for some time now, and winning this contest has made our dream a reality", Libby Krimsier Music Director said. "We are THRILLED about the opportunity to welcome Sara Groves, and pretty happy about the validation of our scavenger skills, too."
