Someday I'm Going Home
Artist: Christina Harrison
Label: Glenanne Productions (USA), New Dawn Music (UK)

Christina Harrison has a lilting folky voice and an acoustic guitar, so there are few prizes for guessing that she's mainly a singer-songwriter in the folk mold. Her album was produced in Nashville and is well-recorded and engineered, with everything coming through clearly, but it feels like there's something missing....

The vocals just seem a little empty to me--smooth and pure, but such easy listening that my concentration soon wanders.  The acoustic guitar is constant, finger-picked and appropriate for the songs, but nothing particularly striking.  The support instruments unfortunately do little to liven up the arrangements.

The title track is probably the standout for me, with some uillean pipes in the background, but it still feels like something's missing. The lyrics throughout look at a variety of themes, and I hoped before reading them that they would draw me in, but still no luck.  I can't see this CD getting much play from me.
