Down the Mountain Slowly Artist: Land Label: Sacred Tree Music (indie) Time: 13/51:09 Calling your record label "Sacred Tree Music" is not the best of ways to reassure listeners about your theological basis, but hopefully the lyrics of this album will--all are given Bible references, and several are taken directly from Bible passages. The music is fairly easy listening, with a creative flair not unlike Over the Rhine, but a bit more synthesised in places, and with a wider variety of instruments. Producers Steve Butler, Charlie Irvine, and Steve Knott (the former two are from Lies Damned Lies) bring forth an interesting album with a variety of textures. The vocal tracks are particularly engaging, with the female lead also sounding reminiscent of Karin Berquist (Over the Rhine). Land could do with a slightly rawer production but have put out an interesting release. By James Stewart |
