Going Postal
Artist: Superfishal
Label: Sore Feet Records
Time: 4 tracks/14:30

With shades of Dodavahu playing at the edges here, Superfishal has quite a bit of potential with their unusual sound.  Not quite rap, not quite hip-hop, not quite funk, but a blend of all these together into a unique flavor that at times makes the mouth water, and at other times leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.  The production quality is poor to non-existent. The guitars alternate between noising up the whole thing, and left sounding weak and unsupported.  The vocals show a lot of promise throughout this four track CD demo, and are kind of a guilty pleasure--like eating dessert before the main course.  Now if only they had more meat to work with lyrically.  This one is a split decision.  I'd probably pick up a full length release by these guys, but I'd be holding my breath during the first couple tracks.  Maybe with better production the rough gem buried here might shine.
