Shine Down Artist: Sycamore Label: Indie Time 11/52:52 "Knowing that Jesus was coming down the road, Zacchaeus climbed up in a Sycamore tree so that he could see the Messiah." At first, I classified Sycamore as another acoustic, folk band--until the guitars kicked into gear and showed me an aggressive side that I liked. Sycamore is Nathan Hubble (lead vocals), Todd Lewis (rhythm guitar), Brian Mayfield (drums), Lamar Stockton (bass), and Greg Speed (Lead guitars and vocals). The lyrics all have a Biblical basis and are at least as good as most the stuff out there in the CCM market, but don't really grab me. I'd like to see some more intelligent lyrics before it would find a regular place in my player, but if you aren't as fussy about your lyrics, this modern rock group could strike the right chord with you. The musicianship and production are excellent. It's definitely one of the better albums I've heard lately. In fact, I like the music enough to give the lyrics a little time to jell. By Shari Lloyd |
